Symbo 1.1 updated

Symbo 1.1 has been updated.
Actually, nothing serious here, this developer tool simply went freeware.

Big thanks to the friend of mine Vitaly Ovchinnikov, he is co-owner of the app and he did the symbols parser.

PhotoStyler and QuartzComposer

We have added QuartzCompositions support for the PhotoStyler, at last. I can’t say this feature is very important, but it brings some new possibilities for photo editing what is always good.
Here is “Blueprint” system Quartz composition applied to a photo with PhotoStyler:

And this is composition preferences pane:

Quartz filter in PhotoStyler 4.0 supports system compositions and user-defined files as well. I don’t recommend to use this filter too often since it’s slower that regular PhotoStyler filters even when they implement the same functionality!

Translations

Sometimes I have small problems with translations, it could be some english word I don’t remember (or even don’t know), it could be a text in a languageI don’t speak or even a number of symbols that I can recognize as a language at all. Every time I use an internet-based translation system to deal with the situation, there are few translators I use, but I believe everyone knows “Google Translate” online service. It’s a wonderful system from the Big Brother that makes our life a little bit easier. The only problem for me is that it’s online service.

Imagine the situation: you have new mail, open it and – oops – there is a need to translate something. What will you do? I select the text, cmd+C to copy it, open the Safari browser, cmd+T to get new tab, translate.goo…, down arrow in the drop-down list, enter to select, wait a little, cmd+V to paste the text into the translation text box. Hit “translate”. Voila… It’s too long, don’t you think so?
A lot of people do, that’s why there are lots of desktop translators that integrate into the OS seamlessly, however, they are shareware. And since we have wonderful and absolutely freeware Google.Translate, why don’t we have it in our OS? Well, we do, now we do: “Lingoo”.

Simplest mode with a single translator text field.
Lingo light

Extended translation mode for a bigger amount of text.
Lingo middle

Heavy translation mode with both source and destination text fields prepared for multiline text.
Lingo expert

This app it intended to be run at login, it has no dock icon and sits quietly in the Menu Bar. There is number of options and two hotkeys: to show the translator and to show the translator with the Clipboard text. “Lingoo” is based on Google.Translate, so everything you can translate with Google can be translated with “Lingoo” as well. Three modes are implemented to satisfy all needs: I prefer the smallest one with no toolbar, but when some big amount of text must be translated – second or third are better.

This app is still in development, need a day or two to complete the task. Some polishing, some icons, you know… But in general it works and I’m sure it will fit my needs. Hope your too. Oh, by the way – it’s freeware.

That’s all, take care!

Priority

Hello everyone.
Just wanted to share current priorities and progress.
1. LightFrame – I’m working on version 1.1. There also could be two releases: minor with bugfixes and bigger one with new features. We have received few bugreports with some issues described and some users faced bad performance of the application, so that’s what I’m focusing on.
2. TheVideoDiary. Right after LightFrame this app will get it’s update as well, this update will improve UI and actually change the look, I’d like to see this app a little bit more modern and styled.
3. PhotoStyler – this buddy will get it’s major upgrade. I think it will be version 4.0 since we plan a lot of changes.

There are also few ideas for new apps, but I’m not ready to share them yet :)

Keep listening!

There is a special photo-processing framework in progress that will strongly improve frames-building and material generation for our products. First product based on this framework will be upcoming “LightFrame” (I believe I will be able to complete this project in May 2010), right after that “PhotoStyler” will move to this framework too. This will improve speed and stability plus extend software features as well.
